7 Must Have Gardening Tools
Spring has finally arrived in Vancouver. We are so far behind compared to last year. This image shows part of the garden in May last year and then this weekend.
You can see how much more the hostas had filled in by this time last year.
My son is a professional landscaper. He has certifications in many areas including pesticide application. He has access to powerful tools that make him very efficient at his job.
All the tools he uses are gas powered and designed to be used on a daily basis. They need a fair bit of upkeep and don’t work well if they are used intermittently. However, a good blower and the big powered shears that he wields like a katana have enormous appeal. I asked him what tools he thought a gardener should have. He gave a thumb down to the gas powered shears. You would only use them once or twice a year, and they would not be worth the investment. We did come up with a good list.
An Ounce of Prevention
Eye protection and Hearing protection. These are definite must have gardening tools that are often overlooked. Landscape professionals are required to have their hearing evaluated regularly to make certain that have enough protection. You can see the “earmuffs” he is wearing in the photo. Neither are expensive and are well worth having.
On to the fun stuff
This tool may seem pricey but along with the string or line trimmer attachment, it is used weekly for the entire season, and the result is terrific.
I talked about some other great tools in a previous post 5 Great Gifts for Gardeners
As it is not a tool I didn’t include it in the list of 7 must have gardening tools for Spring, BUT I recommend that you add a good sunscreen to your list of must haves for gardening.
I am a big fan of La Roche Posay. I find their products have good protections and do not irritate my skin.
