What a terrific thrill to be nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award

Blogger Recognition Award, www.moderngillie.com

The last couple of weeks have been busy with the incredibly mundane task of getting my house ready to go on the market. There seems to be no way to make this enjoyable. So it was with enormous delight I found my blog nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award. Nandyz Soulshine was generous enough to nominate me.

Thank you, Nandita, for this honor!

I enjoy Nandita’s approach to art. Her Art section on her blog is a delight. She does a great job of covering some important topics (I like the post on negative space) in a manner that is easy to understand and pleasant to read. Visit Nandyz Soulshine and enjoy this entertaining blog.

The Rules for The Blogger Recognition Award are:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Write a post to show your award
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers
  • Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

How my blog began….

I had planned an epic three week trip to Great Britain in the summer of 2008. We were to land in Glasgow, spend a week in Scotland then travel south over two weeks visiting the sights and finishing with three days in London. At that time I was coaching several boys soccer teams. The players and some parents expressed an interest in our trip so I decided to have a go at chronicling the trip, as a blog,  in order to share it. Thoroughly Modern Gillie eventually metamorphosed into an avenue to share  topics that interest me and that I may, or may not have some expertise in. Everything is an adventure.

Advice to new bloggers:

I am no expert in the art of blogging. I have noticed that there are some aspects where it pays to be picky. 1) Grammar and spelling. Use an online spelling and grammar checker like Grammarly to polish your prose. 2) Learn to write engagingly – I have to work at this constantly because as a scientist and ethicists my style can be just a bit dry if I am not careful. You don’t have to write a lot but write it well.

  1. Thank you so much for the nomination! I'm so flattered! We started blogging at around the same time too, it's rare to see bloggers back in 2008! I will get round to passing on this nomination when I find 15 blogs. :) Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog http://charmainenyw.com
  2. Congrats on your nomination! I recently discovered Grammarly and love using it! It is such a great tool for bloggers!
  3. Thank you so much for the nomination! I have been DIYing for a very long time, but only starting blogging about it this year. It has been more work than I ever would've thought! I love it, though.
  4. Hello Gilly, I meant to reply to this sooner but with holidays and work I'm just getting around to it now. I am so thrilled that you've nominated me for this award, it really means a lot to know that we're not all writing just for ourselves :) I really enjoyed reading your post (and the rest of your blog!) and I will have mine up within the next week! Thank you so so much!
