Delicious treats in no time!
I took advantage of Amazon’s Prime Deals to purchase the Cuisinart ICE – 30BCC Pure Indulgence Frozen Yogurt- Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker. I had hoped to have several recipes for you, but ice cream takes time to get perfect.
Here is my review of the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker.
I have been an Amazon Prime member for several years. There are so many things to buy from Amazon. I even get my Miele Vacuum Cleaner bags there. The Prime Membership more than pays for itself. Amazon also has Prime Member deals periodically. Their most recent was last week. I had my eye on this ice cream maker for some time and was excited when it came up as one of the Prime Member Deal items. Original price was $99 CND, and I got it for $70!! Shipping was free, and it arrived in 2 days! You can’t beat it.
I have been experimenting! As you know from these posts (here, and here) I have a blueberry problem. What better way to help deal with that problem than make blueberry ice cream. For a change, I decided to try a vegan version with Coconut cream. It has three ingredients. WOW! Talk about rich. The original recipe is from Petite Allergy Treats. Check it out HERE
Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker Review
The Cuisinart ICE-30BCC is so easy to use. There are four pieces. The base, lid, paddle and freezing tub. The electrical cord tucks into a slot underneath, so it stores neatly. You are recommended to wrap the tub in plastic before you put it in the freezer. I used the bag it was packed in. Freeze 6-22 hours. Put the tub into the base, pour in your mixture, add the paddle and lid and switch it on. It does only take 20-25 minutes! The mixture freezes very hard against the sides and bottom of the tub. At first, I thought this was a problem, but I found that the hard ice cream can be peeled from the sides and bottom fairly easily.
There are many ice cream and gelato recipes on the web. The problem is deciding where to begin. I think this is a very effective and easy to use appliance. It is so quick from the mixture to ice cream that involving the kids, with short attention spans, would be easy and fun. If you have been looking at Ice Cream makers, I recommend you check this one out.
The trick is in the mixture.
Many ice creams start with an egg custard base. Egg custard can be tricky so I decided to try it with a custard powder. I used Birds Custard Powder. I grew up with this custard and it tastes great. I made the custard as recommended with 2.5 Cups of milk. I added 1 cup of cream into the mixture when it was cool and in the end 2 more Tablespoons of sugar. The texture is very nice, closer to gelato than full fat ice cream, and the sweetness was okay. It could be sweeter if you like.
Don’t be afraid to experiment
